The building complex at Lindenstraße 54/55 covers more than 3,000 square meters of historic architecture dating from the 1730s to the present day. However, not all areas are open to the public. On this year’s Open Monument Day on September 14, 2025, visitors will be given an exclusive insight into the former living quarters of the prison labor detail, the prison library, and the chapel.
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Free admission and free audio guides
Admission to the memorial and audio guides in German, easy German, English, Spanish, and French, as well as the memorial guide in German sign language, are free of charge on Open Monument Day.
11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.: Guided tour with a look at areas not otherwise open to the public (in German)
During a guided tour of the memorial, visitors will learn about the historic site and its history. They will discover architectural traces from the different periods of imprisonment and learn why people were imprisoned and convicted here between 1933 and 1989. On Open Monument Day, visitors will also get an exclusive look at the former living quarters of the prisoner work detail, the prison library, and the chapel.
